- April Full Pink Moon. Red Eggs. Mary Magdalene.
The Full Pink Moon is happening tonight, 4/5/23, at 9:37pm PT. This Full Moon is in Libra - the scale. A wonderful gift from our Creator that reminds us to shine a light on both sides of every situation. Weigh your options and your responses carefully… Should I stay or should I go? I will be singing this gem from The Clash all weekend! Gather your journaling tools and invest some time exploring yourself with inspiring journal prompts. What new things/people did I let into my life this last month? How do they make me feel? I am proud of myself for stepping into my power when _____________. What am I known for today? What would I like to be known for in the next 6-12 months? What steps do I need to take to get me there? If you have time, set up your space with a candle and/or incense. Take 3 cleansing breaths to center your thoughts. I love Meggan Watterson’s guided breathwork here . A beautiful blessing to speak out loud: ‘Every moment, I walk into my dream life. I surrender to the road and the process. I release all energy that no longer serves me or my highest purpose. I rejoice in the freedom as I distance myself from energies that no longer match my highest vibration. I am grateful for the lessons learned in my past challenges and now call in abundance and positivity for the month ahead.” Beloved, be sure to set out your water vessels, baubles, journals, pens, skincare, and other creative items to charge under the divine moonbeams! In honor of the Easter aspect of this weekend, along with my love of rituals and passion for telling the story of Mary Magdalene to anyone who will listen - this post is also dedicated to her and the Red Egg. This weekend, disciples of Jesus - those who truly, deeply follow The Way he taught while walking this planet - celebrate the resurrection. It is a weekend filled with reflection and celebration of miracles and a reminder that the same power that conquered the grave is also inside each of us… on Earth and it is in Heaven. Over the years, I uncover more and more about Mary Magdalene or Mary of Magdala. Since I was a young girl, she has always had a special place in my heart. I can remember the joy I felt when the pastor would read that SHE was the first one Jesus showed himself to after the resurrection! A woman! Mary is mentioned 12 times in the New Testament - making her the second most mentioned woman, after Mary of Nazareth. I voraciously consume books about her life, including my favorites " Mary Magdalene Revealed " by Meggan Watterson and Dr. Karen King's The Gospel of Mary of Magdala: Jesus and the First Woman Apostle. There is also a chapter dedicated to her in Sophie Bashford’s book “ You Are A Goddess ”. Molly and I talk about her on Spill the Tea ALL THE TIME. You can catch some of those episodes here . As I confidently step into embracing and becoming a feminist theologian (which means I read and engage with Scripture through the eyes of a woman) I am constantly in awe of the stories hidden from me - until now. While researching Mary Magdalene's life and other female disciples - I’ve learned so many stories left out of the formalized Christian Bible by the Nicean Council - comprised of men on a mission to conquer and control. For instance, unlike other women in the Bible, Mary of Magdala is not identified in relation to another person; she is not anyone’s mother, wife, or sister. Instead, she is called Mary of Magdala, a title that implies some prominence in the city, a center of commercial fishing on the northwest bank of the Sea of Galilee. She left her home to follow Jesus, and it is believed she was among several well-off, independent women who financially supported Jesus’ ministry. It is thrilling learning the other side of the story - the half not represented in the books the religious leaders chose to represent the stories and teachings. I finally feel that longing in my heart is being filled. It is indescribable. I think a lot about Mary Magdalene and how during this last week, her Koinonos (Greek word for companion) and Rabonni (teacher) was arrested, tortured, and crucified for His beliefs by political and church leaders. Her beloved Jesus walked this planet showing everyone living and those not yet conceived The Way. I imagine how they must have looked at one another with so much love and longing and deep suffering... it’s heartbreaking and so divinely beautiful - all in one. It was Mary’s deep abiding love for Jesus that kept her standing there at the foot of the cross, weeping and grief-stricken until her koinonos took his final breath. It was the heartbreaking pain of loss that drove her to his tomb at the first light of day in order to anoint his body. She is the person to whom Jesus first appeared on Easter Sunday morning. She was the very first witness of the Resurrection. It was Mary, a woman, who went and told the Apostles that Jesus had risen from the dead; for this, she is called "Apostle to the Apostles". In the Gospel of Philip we read “The Lord,” he says, “loved Mary more than the disciples and he often kissed her on the mouth …” And Peter said, “Sister, we know that the Lord has loved you differently from other women. ‘he said to you, which you remember and we do not know about … Is it possible that the Lord has spoken with a woman about secrets we do not know about? ...he really chose and preferred to us?“ She clearly held a special place in Jesus’ heart and soul. I've also learned how she continued her mission as an evangelist, contemplative, and divine mystic in the heart of the early Christian movement. Yes, a woman was preaching, although you would never know it sitting in most church services still today. (hard eye roll) According to tradition, after Jesus' Ascension into heaven, Mary Magdalene boldly presented herself to Emperor Tiberius Caesar in Rome to proclaim the resurrection of Jesus Christ, with a white egg in hand to illustrate her message. “Christ is risen,” she said. “New life rising from a sealed tomb, just as new life rises from a sealed egg.” The emperor mocked her and said Jesus had no more risen than the egg in her hand was red. Immediately, the egg turned red as a sign from God to illustrate the truth of her message. The Emperor then heeded her complaints about Pilate condemning an innocent man to death and had Pilate removed from Jerusalem under imperial displeasure. Thus, why we color eggs! This weekend, I will be dyeing eggs red in the traditional Greek way - with onion skins. I will lovingly wrap them with herbs before submerging them. You can see from the image of the ones I made last year here how stunning they are. They truly take my breath away. You can join me if you wish. Direction here . I will close with this soulful plea. Please do your own research on what you have been taught. Do not abdicate this powerful act to others. Mary’s story teaches us exactly why this is so important. It is believed that in such a misogynistic, patriarchal society, the decline of Mary of Magdala’s reputation as an Apostle and leader likely started shortly after her death. However, it wasn’t until centuries later that her transformation from a woman of means, Yeshua’s koinonos, and a founding member of “The Church” to a penitent prostitute was sealed. On 9/14/1591, Pope Gregory the Great gave a homily in Rome that pronounced that Mary Magdalene, Luke’s unnamed sinner, and Mary of Bethany were, indeed, the same person. THIS IS FALSE. Please please please stop repeating this untruth. Shake off the shame if you have repeated it and DO BETTER by her and Jesus going forward. Pick up a copy of Mary Magdalene Revealed . Read Mary’s Gospel. Get to know the woman Jesus taught alongside and loved. I pray this inspires you to dig deeper into the traditions you carry forward each year. Wrapping you in love and light.
- Happy Spring Equinox!
Rebirth. Renew. Regenerate. The Spring Equinox - also referred to as Vernal Equinox or Ostara - is when night and day meet as equals. One of only two magical times of the year when daylight and darkness are divinely balanced. In the Northern Hemisphere, the Spring Equinox falls on Monday, March 20, 2023, at 2:24 p.m. PDT It’s time to celebrate that there will be more light than dark in our days until the Fall Equinox on September 22, 2023. Vernal translates to “new” and “fresh,” and equinox is derived from the Latin aequus (equal) and nox (night). My daily walks have been showing off signs of Spring for the last few weeks. It has been such a joy soaking in the sunbeams and snapping photos of the budding buds on the trees, tiny shoots pushing their way through the topsoil, daffodils and crocus adding a dash of color to the grey background of Winter. Today, a light drizzle is making everything sparkle as it makes its way into the ground to nourish these new growths! I feel the energy rising all around me - do you? Stepping into a season filled with new life and invigorated with a new spirit is exactly what my soul is craving… and in divine timing - it is here. This is a time to break out of your winter shell and take cues from Nature! It’s time to step into action and plant seeds for what you want to harvest later this year. Join me in embracing the spiritual meaning of the Spring Equinox to harness the power of spring to its fullest potential and foster new beginnings. In Celtic tradition, this day is known as Ostara. It is a beautiful celebration of renewal and rebirth, honoring the Goddess Ēostre. Many cultures around the world celebrate festivals and holidays around this time of year such as Easter and Passover. For instance, did you know that Easter always falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon which happens after the March equinox? The connection to the lunar cycle is woven into so many of the Christian traditions I was raised on and I had no idea! Several ancient, earth-based spring celebrations, rituals, and traditions influence the Easter rituals and traditions many people continue to celebrate today. It is comforting to see all of the red threads that connect us. I have written about Mary Magdalene and the Red Egg - which is where the coloring of eggs started. You can read more here. https://www.divinesoulfire.com/full-pink-moon In the next 24 hours, we are also celebrating a New Moon and stepping into Aries season. As I was planning out what I wanted to do to honor this divine time I knew two things would be involved - planting seeds and burning intentions. 🙂 If you are looking for ways to celebrate, feel free to join me in any/all of these steps. Items to gather: 3 small flower pots or one large one Soil Seeds of choice Water - if you have moon water - this is a perfect opportunity to use it. Your favorite pen Your journal 6+ strips of paper or dried leaves/bark to write on A candle - I love this style of rolled beeswax candles for my rituals A burn bowl or fire pit to place your intentions in after you’ve released them to the flame Spring Equinox Ritual Declutter and set up your sacred space. Surrounding yourself with items that generate energy and flow is the goal. My preferences are plants and crystals that support your intentions. These are the ones I have gathered: Amethyst brings clarity, energy, detoxification, and peace. Rose quartz is the universal stone of peace and unconditional love. Green aventurine, inspires new ideas and forward motion - and brings good luck. Citrine offers mental clarity and attracts prosperity. Cleanse your space. You can burn incense, diffuse essential oils, or light candles. Please note, if you have furry family members joining you in your space - be sure not to diffuse oils that are toxic to them. A simple search will share a list of oils to avoid. Center yourself. Start by paying attention to your breathing. The cool air you inhale through your nose, the hot air you exhale through your mouth. One of my favorite guided breath meditations is from Meggan Watterson’s Soul Voice Meditation and Prayer of the Heart. https://youtu.be/qxNaueLxiSE Meditate on what you want and then journal. Journal Prompts: Is there anything on my list of “2023 goals” that I am ready to release yet? Now is the time to declutter your goals, create space for what’s new, and get clear! Where do I need to grow to bring balance to my life? Please give yourself at least 1 action item and add a reminder to your recurring “me date” on your monthly calendar. Mine is on Monday mornings. What or who do I need to release in order to bring balance to my life? Need inspiration? Grab a bag and fill it with items around your home you are ready to release. As you are reflecting on the fond memories attached to the item - offer thanks for each of them. What do I want to bring to life this year? Review the above answers and set 1-3 intentions for the rest of the year. Write (and number) each one in a clear and concise sentence in your journal. Then, prepare two slips of paper for each intention and write each of them twice. Plant your intentions Grab a flower pot, fill it halfway with soil, “plant” your intention, add more soil, and plant your seeds on top! Repeat this for each intention. If you are using one large pot for all three intentions, simply mark each intention with a small numbered stone or toothpick “flag” so you know where each one is planted. Water your intentions. Grab your water. If you have moon water, this is an excellent use for it! Repeat your intentions out loud as you water your seeds. Visualize your intention coming to fruition. Feel the feelings you will feel when it has come alive! Hold sacred space for your intentions. Light your candle, and as you sit in silence, reflect on each intention - holding it close to your heart. Practice gratitude. Close this ceremony by choosing 3 things you are grateful for in this moment. Just like you focused on your feelings above, focus on feeling gratitude vibrating through your entire body. See the gratitude-filled energy flow throughout your body like a bright light! I’m smiling thinking about feeling all of this later… Seal it with wax. Let your candle burn all the way down. If there is any wax left, add it to your soil with an additional blessing! Let it grow! Place your pot(s) by the window or under a grow light. Be sure to leave a copy of your intentions nearby, alongside additional water (in a lovely vessel) and any of the crystals you may have used. You will want to repeat your intentions every single time you water… feeling those feelings of completion! Burn your intentions. Fire is transformational, so harness this power and burn your intentions with this New Moon. Gather the second copy of each of your intentions. Using a fire-proof, burn bowl or a fire pit - light each one on fire - repeating it as it burns away. Bury the ashes in the ground, like seeds ready to sprout up! Please be very careful doing this. Move your body Before you close out your ceremony - take some time to move your body. Stretch, do yoga, dance, whatever brings you JOY! Again, reflect on your intentions. You are bringing them to life with every breath! Turn ON. It’s time to officially turn on the creativity, passion, inspiration, and courage inside of you. Get ready to feel renewed, ignited, and ready to illuminate and serve your communities! Here is a fun list of other ways to celebrate the Spring Equinox! Take a walk in nature and snap photos of the signs of spring popping up everywhere. Scroll down to see some of my favorite photos below! Visit a park and kick your shoes off, wiggle your toes in the grass, and ground yourself. Hike into the trees and reflect on how interconnected they are… and how we are to them! Cook a healthy meal with lots of spring veggies… I have a couple of delicious soups on the menu this week! Declutter your home and/or workspace Add some plants around your house Learn about some of the women associated with Spring: Eostre: Germanic Goddess of Spring and the dawn. She transformed a bird into a hare, and the hare responded by laying colored eggs for her festival! Astarte: Semite Goddess of War and Sexuality and Fertility. Persephone: Greek, Queen of the Underworld. Goddess of Fertility, her abduction by Hades is often seen as a reason for the seasons. She is allowed up from the underworld to bring to Spring and returns in the Fall. Flora: Roman Goddess of Flowers and Love. I look forward to hearing what you decide to weave into your traditions this year. Please leave a comment below and let me know! - March Full Crow Moon
March 2023's Full Moon is here. On the West Coast, she will be at her fullest on Tuesday, March 7th at 4:40am. My favorite of the names given to this Moon is the Full Crow Moon . It is the final Full Moon of Winter and is preparing us for Spring... This moon is divinely designed for reflection and springtime renewal. Take some time over the next couple of days to reflect on the fresh starts taking place all around you. On my walk today, I took time to look down at and take photos of the tiny green shoots popping up from the soil and gaze up at the buds starting to grow on the tree branches. LIFE is ready to burst open! It’s time to plant seeds (both figuratively and literally) you can harvest and reap the rewards of later this year. What intentional actions and focused energy can you invest NOW to help out your future self? It’s time to get specific. The Full Moon is also the perfect time for some inner work. Over the next few days, use these journal prompts to help focus your intentions. 1: What patterns do I no longer resonate with and already sense of releasing from my life? 2: What new patterns would I like to create? 3: What seeds do I need to plant to bring them to life? 4: What new results am I seeking to experience from the seeds I am planting? 5: Where can I practice trusting myself more through this process? 6: What have I done lately to make myself proud? If you had any hesitation or found yourself thinking negative, self-limiting thoughts - please take some time to journal those thoughts . For instance, if you couldn't think of something you have done lately to make yourself proud and that prompt took you down a rabbit hole of reliving all of the moments you felt doubt or didn't believe in or trust yourself... write that down. Now, take out some individual slips of paper and write out each negative, self-limiting thought. We need to burn those up! Your paper might read: “I release the shame of not trusting myself.” Write out as many as you’d like. Then, burn each piece of paper. (Safely, please.) My personal process this month... I created my sacred space with comfy blankets, my journal, and a Full Moon tea. I also made sure to request quiet time from my hubby. Next, I lit a delicious Jasmine incense that filled my space with the promise of spring flowers to come. Once I journaled my answers, I grabbed some of the River Birch Bark I gathered on my nature walks) and wrote out the negative, self-limiting thoughts I wanted to release. I filled a “heat safe” bowl with water, added in some herbs (rosemary, lavender, rose petals, and elements of cedar from my garden are always in my bowl), and burned each piece of papyrus - focusing on releasing my grip on whatever I wrote. NOTE: Burning birch papyrus can create some serious smoke, so be sure to do this outside . If you have a fire pit or fireplace - those are great options for a burning ceremony. If you don’t want to use fire at all - you can simply place the papers in a water bowl to drown them and then bury them. I love words and the power they evoke, so of course, as I burn each one I say this: "I release the thoughts and emotions triggered by this. I release all that no longer serves me or helps me in reaching my highest potential. I am grateful for the lessons each challenge taught me and now call in abundance and positivity for the month ahead.” When you’re ready to end the ceremony - simply close out by saying “And so it is. Amen.” (or whatever language your sacred practice involves) As always, gather your water, baubles, crystals, pens, journals, glasses, skincare, and creative tools to set out so they can soak in the moonbeams and positive energy. Be sure to gather them all first thing in the morning - before the sun shines upon them! Happy Full Moon, Beloved. Wrapping you in love and light,
- February New Moon 2023
This New Moon presents herself here on the West Coast on Sunday, February 19th at 11:05pm PT. New Moons are new beginnings and happen every month, so why do I encourage you to celebrate them every month? I believe the New Moon allows us to reset and begin again. Each one beckons us to shake off the shame of what didn’t come to fruition and vision cast abundance over the new cycle ahead. Living by the moon is a divine journey and a love note from our Creator. Each cycle is associated with one of the 12 zodiac signs written in the stars. This ensures we are able to enjoy each sign’s specific type of New Moon energy once a year. The rhythm and flow are brilliant. A Pisces New Moon is known to be a perfect time for reflection. This is the time of year we slowly start to emerge from winter hibernation and step into the magic of spring. Pisces energy is creative, emotional, and intuitive, so I encourage you to slow down and create space for introspection. Personally, I've been holding on to a few BIG visions for a long time - deep soul yearnings of things I want to breathe life into. I've been feeling renewed energy and will be focusing on planting seeds to manifest opportunities and collaborators to help me move forward. Reconnecting with yoga, moving my body, and refreshing my meditation rituals are also on my mind this month. As you rise out of hibernation and Spring begins to show herself, take a moment to reflect on what you want the year ahead to look like. Find a quiet, cozy spot, brew a cup of tea, grab your journal and a pen, and take some time to write. Here are journal prompts to inspire your flow: 1: What have I been pushing myself into for too long that is time to let go? (This may be a project, a relationship that no longer fits, or a goal that isn’t really your own.) 2: What is one thing I will do this week to help me release this? 3: What do I want to work on this year? Look to your Guiding Word to inspire you… 4: What would I like to see come to life next year that I can start on now? The seeds of intention you are planting now will come to life in the months and years ahead. Creating space for them to grow and dreaming about what you want your life to look and feel like definitely honors the New Moon energy swirling around. Revel deeply in this divine moment. When you’re done, prepare a hot, salty bubble bath to soak in and cleanse yourself from any negative energy collected during this last cycle. If you have any moon water left from the last Full Moon, go ahead and add that to your bathwater. Be sure to intentionally stir the water clockwise while envisioning what you want the month ahead to look like! Read your intentions from your journal out loud and focus on the feelings you will feel when you accomplish what you are setting out to do. If you are not called to a bathing ritual, switch it out for a nice, hot shower. Be intentional about washing and rinsing each part of your body. Beloved, our lives are a balance between holding on and letting go… taking time to honor this is a gift. - Happy Brigid's Day + Imbolc
Happy Brigid’s Day + Imbolc! It’s time to rise up and shine a light on the first official Irish National Holiday on Brigid’s Day 2023. Their first national holiday to celebrate a WOMAN. Lá Fhéile Bríde (Brigid’s Day) is a Gaelic traditional festival - also known as Imbolc. It marks the beginning of spring, and for Christians, it is the feast day of Saint Brigid. It is held February 1-2, which is about halfway between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. In Celtic mythology, Brigid was a triple goddess - full of contradiction. She was associated with healing and passion and fire. Further complicating matters, Brigid was a goddess of serenity (my guiding word this year!), poetry, and water as well. Evidence of her has been found throughout Ireland, reflecting her importance as a powerful, yet personal deity. When she was not protecting mothers and newborn children, Brigid inspired many of the writers and poets for which Ireland is internationally renowned. I am deeply drawn to her. My love of poetry, call to heal, and passionate, fiery side are all embraced by her archetype. She feels like home to me. The Christian saint who took her name, born in 450 AD, carried some of those same associations as the Matron Saint of poets and midwives. Like many other feasts and celebrations on the Irish calendar, Brigid predates Christianity – her roots lie in the Celtic festival of Imbolc, the feast of the goddess Brigid, celebrated at least five millennia ago. From the shadows into the light… The Divine Feminine is rising across the globe to BALANCE the masculine energy that has been too long in “control over” things. The feminine energy our Creator wove into each of us is being called to rise up and show the world what power with one another looks like. “ Brigid is the bridge, crossing the threshold from Goddess to Saint, Celtic to Christian, North and South, winter and spring, water and fire, masculine and feminine, ancient and modern.” - Treacy O’Connor “The time has come to write a new story of unity and equality, by celebrating Ireland’s Celtic Goddess and matron Saint Brigid equally to our world famous St. Patrick.” Quote from this Brigid’s Day website Feeling like honoring your Celtic roots and honoring Brigid this weekend? Here are ways I have chosen this year… maybe one will inspire you! 1: Light a candle and say a blessing. I have a red beeswax candle ready to go! Here is a sweet blessing from Molly at Brigid’s Grove: May I walk in enchantment. May I dwell in mystery. May I move in beauty. May I inhabit curiosity. May I occupy wonder. May I serve magic. 2: Take a walk in your neighborhood and search for the first blooms of the season. I will also be taking a photo of it and writing a poem or haiku to honor the moment. 3: Create a FEAST! Traditional foods to include: colcannon (cabbage + potatoes), dumplings, baked bread, milk, eggs, dried fruits, and winter veggies. More food inspiration here. 4: Make/Hang a Brigid’s Cross They honor the goddess and St. Brigid. When you hang them above your front door they will protect and bless your home for the coming year. How to Video. Whether you choose to honor this day or not, thank you for reading more about this divine goddess and saint. Learning the stories of these strong, divine women in history is a beautiful way to honor them. Wrapping You in Love + Light, Additional Inspiration and Resources: 13 Magical Ways to Honor Brigid’s Day If you’re blessed to live in or around Ireland, here are some fantastic options!
- January Full Wolf Moon 2023
January’s Full Moon is a micro moon, which means that the moon is at its furthest point from Earth in its cycle. It will reach its fullest point on January 6, 2023, at 3:08pm PST. This Full Moon is known as the “Wolf Moon” because it comes at a time when (traditionally) wolves are more likely to be heard howling! (According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac ) To me, it always feels like the first Full Moon of the year is more potent because the moon is in the sign it rules, Cancer... the sign connected to home, family, and nurturing. The divinely powerful energy of the Full Moon is also linked with the spirit of womanhood, and many ceremonies are a sacred space for women. Now is the perfect time to clear yourself and your space of negative energy. Our Creator provided everything we need here on Earth to soak in all of this power and light. For instance, burning sage or Palo Santo incense will help you cleanse your body and space. Light it and intuitively walk around your home saying a prayer to bless each space. Work the smoke around your own body to cleanse and bless yourself. Ritualistically, the goal of the Full Moon is manifesting the intentions you set in the New Moon phase of this Divine Cycle. The Full Moon phase is the ideal time to deepen your intentions. Symbolically, the Full Moon is an emotional period of release and completion. I encourage you to embrace a practice designed to soothe, restore, and guide you on the path to shake off any shame or heaviness associated with what you are releasing. For me, this has been writing down and burning what I seek to leave behind. When I clear my soul space of what no longer serves me or my highest purpose, I can create a magical margin for new things to come into my life. I follow this up with a super salty soak in my tub and then snuggle under the covers for a night of deep sleep. Want to join me? Here is what you will need: Candles to light up your space Sage or Palo Santo Incense (if you use actual Palo Santo - please research and do the work to confirm it is ethically sourced) Your favorite writing pen Strips of paper (I repurpose junk mail envelopes or use natural items like river birch bark or dried leaves.) Heat-safe bowl filled with water and (optional) botanicals Matches Journal Cozy space with pillows and blankets Wolf Moon Meditation Playlist Journal Prompts: Think about all of the things you want to RELEASE and complete these sentences: One thing that’s been holding me back lately is... I find myself playing small when… I feel anxious about… If there are other things you want to release, feel free to write those down, too! Ritual Steps: Prepare a cozy spot with a blanket, pillows, and your favorite sacred items representing your Spiritual Walk. Dab a bit of Frankincense or Rose oil on your chakra points and the bottoms of your feet. If you don’t have essential oils, use plain oil (like olive or sunflower) or a fragrance that brings you peace. Create your burn bowl with water and add in the botanicals you chose. I like to include a spring of rosemary, a bit of cedar, lavender, and some rose petals. Light the candles and incense. Turn on some soothing music. The Wolf Moon Meditation Playlist (link above) is a great option. The howls add a fierceness to this ceremony! Go ahead and howl yourself... it feels primal and energizing. Grab the "release" sentences you wrote in your journal. Write each one out on its own strip of paper/leaf. Then as you burn it, read it out loud and say “ I choose to release this now .” Drop it in the bowl of water. It doesn’t need to burn all the way before you place it in the water. Once you have released each one, say this out loud: “I rejoice in releasing all that no longer serves me or my highest purpose. I lovingly let go of all people, places, and things that prevent me from being true to myself and make room for love, peace, joy, and things that will serve me and my highest purpose. And so it is. Amen.” Take some time to sit or lay down and listen to the entire meditation. When you’re ready, take the bowl of papers and bury them outside. If you can’t get outside, simply remove/recycle the papers and put the water down the drain. After you have completed your ceremony, you may feel heavy and want to soak in a hot cleansing bath or take a steamy shower to wash all of the residual energy away. Pour a relaxing, salty bath to help you remove toxins from your body. Let this also help to quiet your mind and prepare you for a calming, deep sleep. Enjoy all of the Divine Feminine energy over the next few days, my beloved. Wrapping you in love and light,
- Celebrating Winter Solstice
Humans have hosted festivals and ceremonies honoring Winter Solstice for thousands of years. This act of coming together to celebrate the end of shorter days is a lovely tradition to consider weaving into your life. I’ve been reading about so many traditions; here are a couple of standouts: For instance, this article shares: “Yalda (celebrated in Iran) is marked by family gatherings, candles (originally fires lit all night), poetry readings and a feast to get through the longest night of the year. Nuts and fruits, including watermelon and pomegranates, are traditionally eaten—legend has it that eating the fruits of summer will protect you from illness in winter.” Another interesting tradition shared: “To honor the many cultural winter solstice traditions, Vancouver’s Secret Lantern Society created the city’s Solstice Lantern Festival. Participants can attend workshops to create their lanterns. On the night of the solstice, processions march throughout the city, culminating in fire performances. Attendees can also try to find their way through the Labyrinth of Light, a maze of 600 candles that invites visitors to let go of old thoughts and find new possibilities for the coming year.” Looking for ways to celebrate in your home? I put this list together: 1: Prepare a nourishing winter feast with foods that warm your heart and soul. A warm root veggie soup with fresh bread sounds perfect to me. 2: Dine by candlelight - the winter’s sunlight. Oh how I love the warm glow of a lit candle. 3: Draw a Winter Solstice bath, adding essential oils to symbolize the energy of the Sun. Citrus oils (orange or grapefruit are my go-tos) Frankincense Rosemary Cinnamon Chamomile 4: Create something handmade that honors the Sun or the natural world. A wreath made of pinecones, holly, or evergreen boughs Hang Mistletoe Paint or draw the Sun 5: My personal favorite - make a Winter Solstice Spiral! The Pacific Northwest just experienced a cold snap that brought SNOW! To celebrate, I am going to create a Winter Solstice Spiral and encourage you to do the same. (Snow not required) Head outside to gather some/all of the following 🔥Evergreen branch 🔥Pinecones 🔥Rocks you collected on adventures this year 🔥Dried leaves/flowers 🔥Herbs - like Rosemary Gather these items from your collection: 🔥Crystals 🔥Candles 🔥Dried Citrus 🔥Cinnamon Sticks Now, place these precious items in a spiral! You can create yours inside or outside - whatever works best for you. Once it is done, light a candle and visualize walking through the spiral. If you have space to build a larger one you can walk through - go for it. Remember, as you enter with things you’re ready to leave behind - this is an excellent opportunity to leave those in your spiral. Start fresh and focused in the new year. If you have chosen a Guiding Word for the year ahead, this is an excellent time to reflect on it. Still need to choose yours? Check out this guide. After this ritual, I encourage you to write your future self a letter sharing what happened in the year ahead and place it in a jar. Be sure to use language claiming it already has happened. “Dear Future Self, I love my new job. I enjoyed traveling to Europe and look forward to sharing the spectacular wine I picked up at that winery in Tuscany.” You get the idea. Next year, on Winter Solstice, read it and see what manifested in your life. Enjoy honoring this incredibly sacred day, Beloved. Amen. Aho. Blessed Be. ps. I will leave you with this final Irish tradition shared here: “The 5,200-year-old Newgrange passage tomb and ancient temple are aligned to the winter solstice: A small opening above the entrance fills with light on several sunrises surrounding the solstice, gradually extending throughout the chamber to illuminate it. The dramatic effect lasts for 17 minutes. Although the exact reason why the tomb was created this way isn’t known, it’s speculated that it marks the beginning of a new year and the triumph of light over darkness. Today, visitors can apply for a lottery drawing to be inside the temple at the moment of the sunrise; others will gather outside the monument.” Wow. Wow. Wow. - December Full Cold Moon
Dearest, it’s time to charge water and baubles under the moonbeams! Together, let's revel in honoring the divine cycles our Creator created and soak in the magic of this one. Today, Wednesday, 12/7, at 8:09pm PT, the Cold Moon arrives and will be our final Full Moon of 2022. December is traditionally a time for culminations and celebrations. December’s Full Cold Moon is in Gemini and the spiritual meaning inspires us to start vision-casting what we want to bring into our life. This month’s Full Moon also reminds us that we’ve completed an entire trip around the sun! Now is a beautiful moment to focus on all the good things you experienced this year and all the magnificent things headed your way. As I get older, I see how deeply the world has gotten this season backward. The media tells us December is all about the hustle and hurry. We are supposed to make sure we attend every soirée, shop for everyone on our list, run ragged getting cards to everyone, plan out our business for 2023 in deep detail, and so much more. It’s exhausting just thinking about the “go go go” messaging! This is another reason why I love looking to Nature for clues. December’s Cold Moon spiritual meaning corresponds with the dormant energy all around us - just as God intended it to be. The trees lose their leaves for a reason. It’s a divine time for releasing and reflecting - a reminder and opportunity to recharge and reconnect. For me, this magical season is full of soul-searching, transformation, and deep internal work. I have learned it is possible to pause, rest, and reflect. Start by remembering you are worthy regardless of what you accomplished this year, what your bank account says, or the extravagant gifts you give. Do your best to use this time under the Cold Moon to rest. Take a cue from the bears and “hibernate”. Slow down and be fully present in activities that truly bring you joy and pleasure. Let every fold of the wrapping paper be a ritual. Let every song or carol you sing be a form of Worship. Let every hug you give or receive be intentional, and may you be totally present to exchange the energy. Here are a couple of things to consider weaving into the week ahead: First, focus on being grateful. Gratitude promotes better mental health, supports deep, restful sleep, and strengthens relationships… all things we strive for - especially around the holidays. Implement a ritual to help you finish the year grateful. It could be a gratitude jar, a journal where you list 3 things you are thankful for each day or a daily meditation that centers you in a place of gratitude. Whatever you choose, please surround yourself with loving, nurturing words, music, and souls. I encourage you to listen in to this conversation Molly and I had around Gratitude: https://debratrappen.com/stt-12-1 Second, take some time to journal. Choose to answer some of these questions or start writing whatever flows from you! Where is my mind saying one thing, and my heart is saying another? What is asking to be shifted in my life or energy? Which of my perspectives is being challenged? Where can I be more flexible? What am I learning about showing up for myself and others authentically? How am I integrating joy and fun into my life these last few weeks of the year? What would I like to do to bring more holiday magic to the season? Do I embrace new ideas with comfort? If not, why? Even if you don’t have all of the answers now, trust the messages you need will find you at the exact right time. Praying the rituals that fill your soul find you, my beloved. - November Full Beaver Blood Moon + Total Lunar Eclipse
This November's Full Beaver Blood Moon and Total Lunar Eclipse will begin at 12:02 a.m. PST on 11/8/2022 when the moon begins to enter the outermost region of Earth's shadow. Even more than last year, this year’s moon cycle has extra spiritual significance given that it’s also a full lunar eclipse (last year it was a partial eclipse). It also closes out the eclipse season of 2022. Eclipses often bring massive shifts, sudden endings, or powerful emotional surges that force us to let go of things and shift our gears. There are moments in time you really need to shake things up—whether you’re ready to or not. This is one of those moments. Beloved, it's time to prepare yourself for a dash of much-needed change coming your way. Ways to prepare, honor, and activate this week thru 11/22/22: 1: Release tension. Consider setting aside time for guided meditations, deep breathwork, or yoga to keep grounded and centered in your body. Letting go of the tension and control over the outcome will help YOU welcome the change. 2: Invest time outside - even if it’s a short walk. Use your senses to observe all the messages our Creator is giving you to start slowing down for Winter in the Northern Hemisphere. Leaves changing color. Rain cleansing the world and helping start the decay process for the leaves that are falling... and inspiring mushrooms to surface. Fall/Winter flowers starting to bloom. Maybe even the first snowfall - depending on where you live. 3: If you enjoy journaling, take some time to contemplate these prompts: 🔥 Was there a time when you wished for what you have now? 🔥 Have you celebrated the abundance you have and the powerful way you manifested what you already have? 🔥 What is your favorite soul-filling activity that fills you with JOY? When was the last time you did it? 🔥 Imagine you’ve suddenly become the dream version of yourself you’ve always wanted to become. Describe in detail what that looks like, feels like, and what that looks like on a daily basis. What are you prioritizing? What can you change now to become that dream version of yourself? 🔥 Which of the following words resonates the most with you? Take some time to write out why you feel this way. ✨ Protection ✨ Release ✨ Cleansing ✨ Empathy ✨ Transformation 4: Turn your bathing time into an intentional ritual time. Review the above journal prompts, listen to a meditation, or do some breathwork as you soak in the tub. Check out my post on how to prepare a magical bath. When you drain the water, repeat this: I am thankful for all of the abundance. Tonight, I release all that no longer serves my calling I wash it away so I may start anew Where there is tension, I embrace peace in this process In perfect time In perfect alignment And so it is. Enjoy soaking in the energy of this month's divine lunar magic! xxoo, Curious about other names for the November Full Moon? According to the Old Farmer's Almanac : "November’s Moon names highlight the actions of animals preparing for winter and the onset of the colder days ahead. Digging (or Scratching) Moon , a Tlingit name, evokes the image of animals foraging for fallen nuts and shoots of green foliage, and of bears digging their winter dens. The Dakota and Lakota term Deer Rutting Moon refers to the time when deer are seeking out mates and the Algonquin Whitefish Moon describes the spawning time for this fish. In reference to the seasonal change of November, this Moon has been called the Frost Moon by the Cree and Assiniboine peoples and the Freezing Moon by the Anishinaabe—for good reason, as winter is right around the corner!" If we share Celtic bloodlines, you'll love that they call it the Darkest Depths Moon. For my fellow lovers of all things Vikings (sæll, Uhtred!) - they call it Slaughter or Butcher Month. For a list of even more Native American Moon names, check out American Indian Alaska Native Tourism Association’s article here or Western Washington University’s article here . - October New Moon * Cord-Cutting Ritual
October's New Moon is on 10-25-2022 at 3:48am PT. There is also a Partial Solar Eclipse happening at the same time! As always, I encourage you to invest time during each New Moon to release whatever is not serving you... to work with the divine lunar energy and start anew. This month, I want to introduce you to a magnificent, powerful practice to help you release WHO (or what) you need to from your life… Cord-Cutting. This is a physical and energetic representation of “cutting ties” with negative people, a harmful relationship, or anything or anyone who drains your energy. If you have been feeling ready to release and let go, maybe now is the time to infuse this ceremony into your life. There are many versions to choose from, so I have chosen this simple one to get you started. I will share another of my favorites on a future Fiery Element New Moon. Gather these items: Candle + Matches 9-inch Piece of Red String (whatever you have on hand will work - it’s the intention that’s most important here) Fire-proof bowl Pen + Paper Your Journal Your Sacred Tools - crystals, incense, etc. When you are ready to do the cord-cutting: Create a sacred space that feels comfortable and where you can truly relax. Dim the lights, burn your incense or Palo Santo and snuggle in for your ceremony. Slow down and intentionally light the candle. If you have matches, use one for this and pay attention to the strike of the match, the sound of the flame igniting, and the smell of the match when you blow it out. Grab the pen and paper and write out everything you want to say to this person. Don’t hold back. Share your frustrations and your desires. It can be a letter or bullet points - whatever feels good to you. Hold your string with both hands to represent your past self and future self both connected by the red thread. Meditate on the words you wrote out in #3. Carefully bring the string above the flame - letting the heat break it apart. If you don’t have access to or want to use a candle to burn the string in your hands, you can cut it instead. Next, place the two pieces of string in the fireproof bowl. Light the paper/letter on fire and place it in the fireproof bowl with the string. As you see them burn, imagine the negative connection to your past with them burn away, too. Repeat the following, if you wish: I intentionally sever and release all energetic cords that do not serve my highest good. I release you and I release me from these binds. I call myself and my power back from all places. As my energy flows back to me, filling me once again with peace, love, and light - I claim freedom from negative energy and connections. And so it is. Amen and Blessed Be. Before you walk away, journal about how this ceremony felt. Take at least 3 deep breaths to center yourself before you leave your sacred space. Of course, adding a few crystals will take it to eleven… Rose Quartz is connected with the feminine divine. Carry it to harness the aura of compassion and peace and the warmth of mothering – all with the superior strength of our Creator. Tigers Eye has the power to focus the mind, promoting mental clarity, and assisting you to resolve problems objectively and unclouded by emotions. Amazonite is a stone of truth, hope, and flow. It also dispels negative energy! Lapis Lazuli helps you see Divine truth and where to grow for your highest good. No matter how you celebrate this New Moon, know I am wrapping you in love and light. xxoo,
- October Full Hunter Moon
It's time to celebrate the Full Hunter Moon. Also known as Sanguine or Blood Moon (English Medieval), Changing Season Moon (Sioux Great Plains), and many others. See the list at the end of this post. She will be at her fullest on October 9, 2022, at 1:54pm PT. This year’s Hunter Moon, I will be focused on internal work, self-reflection, and releasing that which must go... and invite you to join me. As we begin the dark half of the year - it is time to accept and welcome the darkness with open arms and spirit. My three focuses this Moon are connected to my 2022 Guiding Word - SOVEREIGNTY: Balance my feminine and masculine energy Gratitude for what is in flow in my life - grace over what isn't Shadow Work around what is triggering Here is a handful of journal prompts to work with you as you soak in the moonbeams. What will I no longer accept? ☄️ Self-limiting beliefs? ☄️ Abusive behavior? ☄️ Overworking and endless hustle? ☄️ Procrastinating? Who am I ready to release from my life? ✂️ The Vision Vampire friend who can never seem to find a supportive word for you on your journey? ✂️ The Energy Vampire who sucks the life out of you every single time you’re together? ✂️ The clients you knew immediately weren’t a fit - yet a scarcity mindset kept you from referring them to a colleague? Is there anything else standing in the way of me owning my sovereignty as a radiant, divinely powerful being? 🔥 Be honest with yourself here. Sit with that first thought that came to mind and reflect on it... there is healing work here for you, my beloved. If you are stuck here, consider talking to your ancestors who have lived and ascended before you. Ask them for guidance. Talk with God and ask the question during your prayers. Be OPEN. I encourage you to take time to write out the answers to the questions that resonate with you in your journal and then write them on small slips of paper, bark, or leaves you've collected in your yard. Take those small slips and perform a burning ceremony to honor the release! I shared my burning ceremony process in this post . Please be very careful with fire this time of year. If you are nervous about it - you can simply go outside and bury your pieces of paper instead. When you’re done writing, burning, and ready to close your ceremony - weave in a simple statement of closure. I love using “Amen. Aho. Blessed Be. And so it is.” It wraps and honors my spiritual practices together. Of course, my favorite way to end every Full Moon day is to prepare and take a Full Moon Bath . Soaking your divine temple cleanses your body and your mind. I will be using Amethyst, Quartz, Moonstone, Bloodstone, and Carnelian tonight! Before the moment slips away, be sure to gather your filled water vessels and gather your bits and baubles for divine moonbeam blessings tonight. Add additional items like your journals, pens, skincare, and other creative tools to soak in the divine energy. I like to set these out while I am running my bath water. I am wrapping you in love and light as you slow down to care for yourself - body, mind, soul, and spirit. xxoo, ps. If you haven't already - start thinking about how you’d like to celebrate October, Samhain, and Halloween.
